Stress and cystitis: support, not blame
Make resources feel safe
Provide quiet litter locations, clean trays, safe hiding and resting spaces, and ways to avoid other pets. Watch for subtle blocking at doors or trays. Keep essential resources in separate places so one encounter cannot block everything.
Offer predictability and choice
Keep feeding, cleaning and play reasonably predictable. Offer gentle play and elevated rest appropriate to mobility. Let the cat approach and leave contact. Never punish accidents: it can increase fear and make the problem worse. Discuss conflict or handling stress with the vet.
Medical care still matters
Comfortable surroundings do not diagnose FIC or remove the need for pain assessment and testing. Tell the clinic if giving medicine is stressful; ask for a demonstration or another feasible formulation. Recurrent urinary signs still need reassessment, and little or no urine is an emergency.
